Stanhoe clicks to connect with the council

WEST Norfolk Council is now just the click of a mouse away for Stanhoe residents.

They are the latest to benefit from technology that allows them to get in touch with the council without having to leave the village.

The community information point, to be based in the village hall, opened for business on Tuesday March 9 and will now be available to villagers on Tuesday mornings from 10am to 11.30am and on Friday evenings from 8.30pm to 10pm.

The computer, with broadband access, will allow them to access a range of council services, including information about refuse and recycling arrangements, submitting, viewing and commenting on planning applications and finding out what is planned at the council's sports and arts facilities.

Roy Johnston, the council's cabinet member for performance, said: "Many of our residents live in rural locations and have to travel some distance to the closest council office. We want them to feel connected and to have convenient access to the council. New technology can help us to achieve this but not everyone has broadband access or the confidence to do business online."

Computer-savvy volunteers will be available to lend a hand where needed so even those with no computer experience can make the most of the service.

Volunteer Charles Butcher said: "Many people in the village simply don't realise how useful the internet could be to them. Once they find out I think they will be queueing at the CIP."

Councillor Roy Johnston launches Stanhoe's community information point and is joined by volunteers (from left) Pam Austin, Terry Austin, Mary Lancefield, John Seedhouse, Sue Smith, Charles Butcher and Ann Deam. Picture: MLNF10PB0308 www.photostoday.co.uk To order, please ring 01553 817335.
