Success in Palm of Lynn's hands
DRAMATIC proposals to build a vast new paper mill in Lynn have got the go-ahead from planners
The proposals will see the creation of a 330 million state-of-the development on the former British Sugar site in Saddlebow, employing 150 people and creating a further 150 jobs in associated industry, applicant Palm Paper has said.
A special meeting of West Norfolk's development control board spent three hours wading through reports and questions, including concerns over potential pollution from chimneys and run off water at the site, on Tuesday before giving its approval, with all voting in favour bar two abstentions.
A complex list of 41 conditions were attached to the permission to manage environmental risks, traffic coming to and from the site, disruption during construction, noise and the ultimate appearance of the mill.
After the meeting Palm Paper chief executive officer Dr Wolfgang Palm said: "I am extremely happy with the support coming from the council and especially happy that some of them strongly recommended it is going to be a good development for Lynn, that is the same way that we feel.
"We will now go forward in the development. First we have to evaluate how much time it will take to fulfil all of the conditions."
