Super Kid Emilia has heart of gold
A GAYWOOD girl with a "huge heart of gold" has gained a Super Kids nomination for the support she has given her mum and brother.
Emilia Smith (11), has a nine-year-old brother, Joseph, who is autistic and non-verbal.
Family friend Joanne Jenkins, who nominated Emilia, said: "Her mother is a single parent who has studied hard for a degree to gain a better life for her and her children. This would have been much tougher without Emilia's help with Joseph.
"She always puts her brother first. She helps him to bath, to get food and drink, to get ready for school and in any other way she can."
Emilia never complained about Joseph, despite often not being able to do things other families took for granted.
"If they do go out, even into town, the trip can be cut short if Joseph gets distressed. But even when disappointed, she does not complain," said Joanne.
Emilia also defended Joseph when other people did not understand his actions or the sounds he makes.
"She is a delightful girl with a huge heart of gold and there seems to be nothing she won't do to help others if needed," Joanne went on.
For enriching her mum's life and for the help, love, kindness, support, understanding and fun that she gave to Joseph, Emilia thoroughly deserved a Super Kids nomination, added Joanne.
Emilia's mother, Maria D'Aloia, said: "She is immensely patient with Joseph, considering there are so many things we can't do with him. I'm very lucky that she is so good with him because otherwise life would have been a whole lot harder. She is a caring little lady."
