Surf's up for Dersingham and Gaywood
OLDER people in Dersingham and Gaywood are being offered the chance to learn how to surf – from the comfort of their local library.
Surf's Up is the name of a new initiative being launched by Norfolk County Council at 23 libraries across the county.
The aim is to help a growing number of "silver surfers" to get the most out of the Internet. Four free, two-hour sessions are being offered to everyone aged 65 or over as part of the county council's work to support people who want to retain their independence by living at home for as long as possible.
Head of Libraries Jennifer Holland said: "The Internet can be a very useful tool for older people – for instance, helping them keep in touch with friends and family via email, access information and find out about services such as online shopping.
"We will work with small groups at a pace which suits everyone. Weekly library-based clubs will also be set up to encourage participants to help each other and practice what they have learned."
Courses run until late February at libraries as far afield as Wells, Thetford, Diss and Yarmouth. Spaces are limited and further information on all courses is available at libraries.
