Sutton Bridge works put back

MAJOR upheaval for motorists as work is carried out on the A17 at Sutton Bridge has been put back until Monday, November 19.

Roadworks on the swing bridge were due to have started this week, but the team decided that low overnight temperatures would affect the setting of the new surface – so tents will be put up and blowers used.

When work does start, only one lane will be in use at a time over the historic bridge while resurfacing is carried out and repairs are made to the timber tender.

Temporary traffic lights will be in use throughout.

Mr Ben Colson, managing director of Norfolk Green, which operates buses on the route, has warned of inevitable delays on the Spalding route.

"Where we can we will use extra vehicles, but the reliability of the service will be knocked to smithereens. We will do everything we can," he said.

Lincolnshire County Council said work on nearby streetlighting also conflicted with the proposed roadworks.
