Swaffham service thanks 'heroes'
A SPECIAL service has been held in Swaffham to honour the town's unsung heroes and show appreciation for the work they do.
Members of Breckland Christian Fellowship held the Service of Honour at the town's Oasis Centre in Cley Road on Sunday, September 16.
Among the 90 people present were teachers from Swaffham schools, town council staff, and representatives of Swaffham Community Transport and the British Red Cross who were being thanked for their services to the local community.
Welcoming the special guests, Pastor Graham Chittock said they and other people working for Swaffham, such as the police, firefighters and ambulance crews, did not always get the recognition they deserved.
He thanked them for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the occasion.
During the service, children read prayers of thanksgiving for the schools, families and the emergency services, and took part in a parade reflecting these various aspects. There was also a sketch on the theme of working together.
Pastor Paul Randerson spoke on the teamwork that goes on in communities and Mary Randerson gave a prayer for freedom and democracy.
Small gifts of thanks were presented to the guests and after the service they were given a buffet lunch. Mr Chittock said the Service of Honour was likely to be repeated in future years.
