Ten arrested in WN drink-drive purge

POLICE fear their anti-drink drive message is not getting through after ten people were arrested for the crime in West Norfolk alone.

A total of 23 people have been arrested for failing breath tests on Norfolk's roads in the last week – bringing the total number arrested for drink driving since the start of December to 40.

To date, 17 people have been arrested in the central area. A further ten arrests have been made in the western area and 11 in the eastern area, with a majority falling in the over-25 age category.

Casualty reduction officer PC Michael Edney said: "The number of people arrested over the past week as part of our annual anti-drink campaign shows that the message is still not getting through.

"To completely avoid ruining Christmas for your family, losing your driving licence, reputation and possibly your job, the advice is simple – don't drink and drive.

Norfolk police are taking part in a month-long anti-drink drive campaign to raise awareness of the crime and take action against those breaking the law.
