Terrington school first for finance

TERRINGTON St Clement Community School has become the first in Norfolk to gain a new award for financial efficiency.

All schools are required to have the Financial Management Standard in Schools award by 2010.

The Terrington school's speed in demonstrating that it is providing good value for money was recognised by Norfolk's assistant director of resources and efficiency, Mr Paul Fisher.

He said he hoped other schools would be inspired by Terrington St Clement's example and work quickly towards gaining the same recognition.

Headteacher Liz Batt said the school had to show it had all the necessary procedures in place to make the most effective use of its funds.

"We were invited to become part of a group of schools aiming to gain the award ahead of schedule.

"We were very keen to try and our bursar, Mrs Sue Kew, suggested it would be even better to be the first," said Miss Batt.
