Terrington school sports store fire

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire in a Terrington St Clement building, used by the local high school to store sports equipment and work benches, on Sunday.

Two wooden benches were damaged in the incident, to which crews from the village and Lynn turned out shortly after 4pm.

Watch Manager Michael Neeve, the officer in charge, said St Clement's High School uses the former farm building on the edge of its sports field, to store goal posts, frames and nets, as well as the benches.

He said: "The fire was not that big but it generated a lot of smoke. We used a thermal image camera because it allowed us to see through the smoke to the seat of the fire."

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire within 12 minutes.

Yesterday, a school spokesman said: "The main school building was not damaged and the school will open as normal on Monday."
