Thieves: All they want for Xmas is your iPod
CHRISTMAS shoppers are being urged to stay vigilant and keep their belongings with them after recent thefts of handbags and purses in the Lynn area.
A Norfolk police spokesman said: "In recent weeks there have been incidents in the Lynn area whereby shoppers have left belongings unattended while out and about.
"Police would like to urge shoppers to remain vigilant and keep their belongings secured and on them at all times."
To avoid the distress, loss and inconvenience caused by these thefts, shoppers are advised to take the following simple crime prevention measures:
Ensure that your bag is fastened;
Never leave your property unattended;
Carry your bag close to your body at all times – do not leave it hanging on your shopping trolley or buggy;
Open your bag towards your body;
Carry as little cash as possible;
If using a mobile phone make sure it is put away after use.
Generally, people should be aware of their surroundings when shopping and look after personal possessions and valuables, such as cash, mobile phones and the much-desired iPods.
"Keep their use discreet and put them away after use," the spokesman said.
