Thieves target Huns'ton cars

CARS have been targeted in a recent spate of crime in Hunstanton with nine vehicles raided in one night.

After 10pm last Sunday, thieves got into unlocked and secure vehicles parked in residential areas. Entry was gained to some by smashing windows or forcing locks.

Among other items, the thieves took sat navs, CDs, purses and cash from cars in Church Road, Waveney Road and the Southtown area.

Hunstanton Inspector Dave Buckley said: "The offenders have taken the opportunity to target unlocked vehicles or vehicles with property left on display.

"We urge all motorists to be alert, to remove all valuables from their vehicle when leaving it parked and, when your vehicle is not occupied, please lock it up – it's not an effort and it can make all the difference."

Patrols in the town have been stepped up and members of the Hunstanton and Burnham Safer Neighbourhood Team will be raising awareness of car crime and offering crime prevention advice to residents over the next few days.

Witnesses and people with information should contact 0845 456 4567.

Hunstanton's community policing team has launched a new meet-and-greet service for people living in the town.

Starting from today, Hunstanton and Burnham Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be holding fortnightly surgeries at the town police station to give residents improved and regular access to their local police officers.

The sessions will be held between 10am and noon every second Tuesday and between 5pm and 7pm on every fourth Tuesday of the month.

The new surgeries will be held in addition to monthly surgeries currently held in Heacham, Burnham Market and Docking.

Hunstanton SNT sergeant Rob Curl said: "This fortnightly surgery will give people the opportunity to bring non-emergency matters to our attention in a personal way and meet some of the people who will be doing their best to address those matters."

The team can be contacted by calling 0845 456 4567 or online via their web page.
