Thumbs up from mums at Lynn hospital
WOMEN and their partners who had their babies at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital have given the maternity service the thumbs up in a survey.
Two hundred maternity patients were asked for their views on the care and treatment they received when they had their babies at the hospital earlier this year, in the independent survey carried out by a market research firm.
Top scores went to good communications with staff, with 99 per cent of patients saying they were "spoken to in a way they could understand during their labour and birth".
Nearly all patients (97 per cent) said the room where they gave birth was clean, and 96 per cent said they had confidence and trust in the staff caring for them during the labour and birth.
Almost all (95 per cent) said they had the name and phone number of a midwife they could contact if they had any concerns during the weeks leading up to the birth. More than 90 per cent said they were satisfied with the overall care they received during labour and birth.
Just eight per cent felt they had insufficient pain relief during labour. But after the birth, 93 per cent of women reported they had taken advantage of a postnatal checkup of their own health.
Gwyneth Wilson, the QEH's deputy chief executive and chief nurse, said: "We work hard to make this a positive experience for new mothers and it's pleasing to get this level of good response. We value the comments of all of our patients and we take their views into account when planning improvements."
