Tide cuts off six cars at Brancaster

COASTGUARDS and police were called to help people caught in their cars by the rising tide at Brancaster Beach car park.

A Yarmouth Coastguard spokesman said the alarm was raised and Wells and Hunstanton coastguards were alerted.

Four-wheel-drive vehicles were used to help the occupants of six cars reach the safety of a nearby bank, where they waited until the tide turned and it was possible to return to their vehicles about two hours later.

Hunstanton Coastguard's hovercraft was also launched but was stood down as it was not needed.

The coastguard spokesman added that there was a flood warning sign at the entrance to the car park.
