Too cold, said Screwfix staff who walked out
STAFF walked out on Monday in protest about cold working conditions at Screwfix Direct's new trade counter at Lynn.
A spokesman for the company, which opened the Hardwick Industrial Estate branch three months ago, confirmed that some workers had walked out during the morning and said: "Screwfix takes the health and safety of all its employees very seriously indeed.
"We have installed heating at the Lynn trade counter but are sorry to say that, in this instance, there has been a delay with its commissioning.
"As soon as we were aware there was a problem, we installed temporary heating and issued warm workwear to the employees. We are sorry, and surprised, our employees have taken this action as we have been working with them to rectify the situation and have kept them informed as much as possible.
"Unfortunately the cold snap seems to have accelerated the problem further and we have now organised for further heating to be installed."
The Screwfix branch, on the Hardwick industrial estate, was not forced to close during the dispute.
