The owners of two pubs in Brancaster Staithe have won a coveted prize at the prestigious Publican Awards held in London’s glamorous Grosvenor Hotel on Tuesday night.

More than 1,100 people attended the glittering awards ceremony, hosted by comedian and TV star Rob Brydonon Park Lane.

Anglian Country Inns, which runs the White Horse and Jolly Sailors in Brancaster Staithe walked away with the Best Food Offer award.

That is awarded to a company delivering food to customers as a key part of their appeal. The company operates only four pubs, the two in Brancaster Staithe and two in Hertfordshire.

The awards are recognised as the biggest in the pub industry and celebrate the achievements of leading pub companies.

James Nye, managing director of Anglian Country Inns, said: “This is brilliant news and, of course, we are over the moon to have been recognised by the industry as having the Best Food Offer in the country.

“We have amazing teams of staff at all our establishments who are instrumental in our success. Without their hard work and dedication, we would not be as successful as we are.

“The judging was tougher than it has ever been and this year some of the biggest industry names were involved in the process and the competition was fierce with some outstanding companies short-listed. We are immensely honoured to have picked up this award.’

Feedback from the judges included praise that said: “Not only does Anglian Country Inns split its business geographically between the north Norfolk coast and land-locked Hertfordshire, but its four sites are each of an entirely individual nature.

“For many, this might prove a disadvantage but this family-run operation thrives on it. What the local seaside pub, destination hotel, rural gastro pub and high street bar brasserie have in common is an excellent and precisely pitched food offer.”
