Top award for top beach in Hunstanton

HUNSTANTON has received further recognition for the quality it offers to visitors and residents as a top UK resort.

The town has again received the Quality Coast Award, a national accolade issued as part of the Keep Britain Tidy scheme to acknowledge beaches with outstanding environments and facilities.

Hunstanton first received the award last year, when it was accredited with achieving high standards in a number of areas including water quality, beach cleanliness, the provision of litter bins and well-maintained public toilets.

And the resort retained its title when the latest list of top beaches was published last week.

Hunstanton Mayor Richard Bird was delighted with the news and believes it is a great accolade to achieve ahead of a busy summer season.

He told the Lynn News: "Anything that can add to the attraction and make people come to the area is what we want to see.

"I see this year being very, very positive for Hunstanton, provided it is not teeming with rain.

"I think we are going to make a good impression on the public.

"It is incredible how much goes on in West Norfolk. I have seen listings for 800 events between now and the end of September.

"There is a lot of potential for people to enjoy themselves in the UK and there is no reason why they cannot have a good time here.

"Across the country we have seen stories of shops closing but in Hunstanton it has remained fairly buoyant, Hunstanton seems to be coming through this recession in good shape.

"We have a terrific civic society, chamber of trade and town council who are working together to make things work."
