Gaywood library created its very first town read event in a bid to encourage the community to get together.

The library launched the town read on January 6th where residents are able to read and rent S.J Watson’s- Before I go to Sleep.

Elena Parkin, community librarian, said: “My favourite part about this event is that people are not only talking about this book but are also sharing what they like to read.”

The big meet is on March 7th between 10.30am and 12pm, this is where people from the community will come to the library to discuss the book. This will include tea’s, coffee and even a quiz about the book.

Elena said: “This is a social event where people can get together. It’s all just a little bit of fun.”

All the staff in Gaywood library were involved in the organisation of this event and felt that they needed to promote it.

The library promoted the event around the Gaywood area as a part of a campaign called join up January.

Elena added: “This event has definitely encouraged people to join the library. It is a great opportunity for the local community to meet others.”

The library is looking to run the town read event at least once or twice a year but will avoid the summer holidays.

The Great Big Read goes for the Movies is another event that is occuring in March that takes place across Norfolk. This is -where people can discuss popular films that have been made into films including Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
