Traffic planning for Lynn's growth
RESIDENTS in and around Lynn are being asked how the area should cope with traffic and transport issues over the next 15 years as the town grows by an estimated 15,000 people.
Norfolk County Council, in partnership with West Norfolk Council, has launched a public consultation on a new transport strategy to help the town cope with future growth.
Friday was the last day of a mobile exhibition which had been being held in Vancouver Centre, near Costa Coffee, throughout last week.
People were asked about the current transport situation and what they think about future problems and how these could be tackled, taking into account roads, public transport, walking and cycling improvements.
The exhibition is now going on display at the borough council's offices, on the county council's website and the Nar Ouse Regeneration Area (NORA) offices will have local consultation for two days for the South Lynn area on Thursday and Friday.
Adrian Gunson, cabinet member for planning and transportation at Norfolk County Council, said: "Over the next 20 years Lynn is set to grow by 10,000 people, meaning more homes, jobs, a new college and university campus as well as new shops and leisure facilities."
"Creating a transport strategy for this growth is essential to shape a successful long-term future for the town and public consultation is invaluable in this work."
The strategy, due to be completed by May 2008, is costing 400,000 – 325,000 from English Partnerships and 75,000 from the county council.
