Views sought on county childcare
PARENTS and carers are being asked for their views on the quality of childcare provision in Norfolk.
Norfolk County Council carried out research last year to see what childcare is available countywide and to identify any gaps and weaknesses.
Now it is consulting families, providers and employers to see if they agree with the findings and ask their opinions on how the service can be improved. This could address the problem of cost for some families.
A series of consultation events are being held over the next couple of months, including one at the Professional Development Centre, Kilhams Way, Lynn, on Thursday, February 28, at 6.30pm.
The research found that overall the supply of childcare meets demand although there is a small shortage of full-day places for youngsters up to two years of age.
But it also showed that costs can be an issue for some parents and that some small pre-school groups in rural areas find it difficult to stay financially viable throughout the year.
The study also showed a gap in provision for children with special and other specific needs but a high proportion of the parents interviewed said they preferred to care for their chld themselves.
