Village election at Hillington as four resign
AN election will be held at Hillington in March after four members of the parish council suddenly resigned, leaving the council inquorate.
Hillington Parish Council clerk Mrs Janet Nunn – who has also resigned – confirmed to the Lynn News on Wednesday that the resignations had taken place and that the council was currently unable to meet through lack of numbers.
However, she was unable to comment further.
Members of the council who have resigned include the chairman Nick Irving, vice-chairman Kevin Root and councillors Mrs Julia Irving and Ray Nunn. The only councillor remaining is Mrs Kate Sayer.
Notice of the election, which will take place on Thursday, March 6, was published on Thursday, nomination papers having to be received by the returning officer at West Norfolk Council in Lynn no later than noon, on Friday, February 8.
Voting will take place on the day at the Ffolkes Arms Hotel and Country Club, Hillington, from 7am to 10pm.
Anyone wanting to vote by post should do so no later than 5pm on Wednesday, February 20.
The deadline for voting by proxy is not later than 5pm on Wednesday, February 27 and emergency proxy vote applications should be received no later than 5pm on March 6.
The last meeting of the council took place on January 18.
