War declared on West Norfolk graffiti
STREET scenes in West Norfolk should soon be missing one familiar sight – graffiti.
A special vehicle is due to be launched tomorrow to deal with the problem and has been jointly funded by West Norfolk Council, the police, crime and disorder partnership, West Norfolk Partnership, Norfolk County Council and Freebridge Community Housing.
"Graffiti not only spoils the appearance of an area but can make it feel unsafe for residents," said West Norfolk Council's cabinet member for the environment Brian Long.
And residents are being invited to call a freephone line to report graffiti – removal of which is also free of charge on private property, with the owner's consent.
Lynn's town centre inspector Dennis Lacey said: "Graffiti is an issue often raised by local residents as one they feel lets their neighbourhood down. Safer Neighbourhood Teams work hard with those communities to identify and deal with those responsible and this new unit will serve to enhance this work."
Borough council staff, who will manage the vehicle, will pass on information about sites they have cleaned to the police to assist them in tracking down those responsible.
