Weaving tales of witchcraft in Lynn
A WITCH-HUNT sets off across Lynn next month when a gripping historical play by leading American playwright Arthur Miller is staged by Lynn Players.
The group has launched ticket sales for The Crucible which it will be performing at Lynn Arts Centre between Thursday, March 6, and Saturday, March 8.
The play tells the story of the Salem witch trials in 1692, where dozens of innocent people were killed after being falsely accused of witchcraft.
Penned by Miller in 1953, it has often been seen as an allegory for Senator McCarthy's anti-communism trials of the 1950s.
Director Carol Beveridge said: "We are delighted to be performing such an exciting and dramatic show. After several years of struggling to cast a play, we have successfully brought together some of the best amateur dramatic talent there is locally. The play also has several young players taking part in some dramatic roles for the first time.
"The Crucible is both a gripping historical play and a parable of our contemporary society, and contains some of the best drama ever written."
Steve Lindeman takes the lead as the hero of the play, John Proctor.
The young and manipulative leader of the witches of Salem, Abigail Williams, is being played by Helen Symonds and other well-known Players involved include Ian Ding, Chris Fox, Adam Howard, Louise Smith and Richard Abel.
Tickets, priced at 10 (9 concessions), are available from the box office on 01553 764864.
