West Norfolk 36 in cast of 1,000

THIRTY-SIX West Norfolk children, who have been training in the performing arts, will be taking part in a show about The Beatles at the Royal Albert Hall in London today (Sunday).

The youngsters from the Lynn Theatretrain school will be among 1,000 young people, aged six to 18 years, from across the country performing The Long and Winding Road before an audience of up to 5,000 at the famous venue.

Twenty eight of Theatretrain's schools are taking part in the production, which features nearly 40 of the Fab Four's best known songs and a live 18-piece orchestra. A total of 30 pupils from the Czech Republic and Denmark will also be involved, as part of an international exchange.

Lynn Theatretrain franchisee Ruth McKechnie said the local contingent had been busy rehearsing at Lynn's Springwood High School, their usual weekly venue, for their role in the show's choir.

"Some of our children took part in La Bohme at the Corn Exchange in April with a professional touring company, and we did our own local show, called Musical Express, at Lynn Arts Centre in May," she said.

PALLADIUM

Last year, children from the Lynn school appeared in a James Bond-themed show, called Licensed to Thrill, at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane. And next summer they will be taking part in a production called Wondrous Stories at the London Palladium.

Mrs McKechnie said Lynn Theatretrain has been going since October, 2005, and meets each Saturday, from 10am to 1pm, at Springwood High School. "We do one hour singing, one hour dancing and one hour of drama. No auditions are necessary and all the children take part in the shows, even the London ones," she said.
