WEST NORFOLK: New county leader to be chosen

A senior West Norfolk councillor has thrown his hat into the ring to be the next county council leader.

West Norfolk Council deputy leader Brian Long yesterday confirmed that he intends to stand for the post when Conservative group members select a new chairman next week.

The post became vacant after Derrick Murphy resigned in the wake of a standards ruling that he had brought his office into disrepute.

A new chairman will be chosen at a special group meeting next Friday, February 22. The winner will then be proposed as the county council’s new leader at an extraordinary meeting scheduled for the following Monday.
