WI's top guest amused by TV's 'fat lady' chef
The Queen spent a cosy afternoon with her local Women's Institute members on Wednesday.
They had tea together and were entertained by the larger-than-life TV chef and author Clarissa Dickson Wright.
Ms Dickson Wright, who is also a WI member, talked to members of the Sandringham and West Newton branch about her experiences travelling the country and filming as one half of the Two Fat Ladies duo.
"She had some amusing tales to tell and The Queen appeared to enjoy it as much as we did," said Ann Whiting who is one of the branch's vice-presidents and its chairman for 2008.
A small group of well-wishers watched as Mrs Whiting and fellow vice-president and secretary, Janet Nunn, welcomed the Royal visitor to the annual meeting at West Newton Village Hall.
The Queen became branch president after the Queen Mother died and her role on Wednesday included signing the minutes of the last annual meeting and presenting prizes to winners of competitions for a coffee and walnut cake and for embroidery. They included 93-year-old May Southgate, who was overall winner for the year and received the competition shield for a second time.
The Queen, who wore a turquoise suit, had afternoon tea with the members and watched them perform a comical tribute to Laurel and Hardy called Way Out West. She also showed an interest in an exhibition of bird and animal ornaments.
"It was a lovely afternoon," said Mrs Whiting.
