Woman (73) dead for a year 'lived reclusive lifestyle'
AN inquest was opened yesterday on an elderly Fakenham woman who may have lain dead in her home for more than a year before her body was discovered.
Greater Norfolk coroner William Armstrong, sitting at Norwich, said the dead woman had been identified as 73-year-old Phyllis Mary Szczrybak, of 3a Tunn Street.
He said: "I am satisfied of her identity from information received from the police.
"It appears she was a widow and was found dead on April 17, 2009, after local people saw through her lounge window.
"She appeared to be deceased. An entry was forced and she was found dead on a sofa bed in the lounge."
The coroner said that from interviews with her relatives it seemed that she might have been living a reclusive lifestyle for a considerable time.
Cause of death was uncertain following a post mortem, but Mr Armstrong said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.
Adjourning the inquest for more information, he said: "It is likely that she had been dead for some considerable time."
