WOOTTON: Friends raise vital funds
The WOW ladies social group who have raised over 1000 for Kings Lynn Breast Cance unit at the QEH
A group of friends are using their regular get-togethers as an opportunity to raise money for charities.
The WOW (Wine on Wednesdays or the Witches of Wootton according to the husband of one member) ladies social group meets at least once a month for a range of activities.
Some members have known each other for 16 years, with new people regularly joining them. Ruth MacDuff said: “We started off as a group of friends who didn’t see each other very much now our children are older.
“We used to meet at the school gates but now people are working full-time again.”
The group meets for walks, meals, theatre visits and general socialising and will soon be trying clay pigeon shooting. Their first fundraising event, which was a sausage and mash night, raised more than £1,000 which was donated to the breast cancer unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Mrs MacDuff said: “Two or three of our ladies have suffered from breast cancer so it became close to our hearts. We are thrilled with how much we raised and hope to do a fundraiser every year.”
