Word wizards of Walpole have spellbinding fun
Anthony Curton School Winners
Anagrams, wordsearches and crosswords were successfully tackled by Anthony Curton Primary School pupils who won this year’s Marshland Cluster Spelling Challenge.
The school, at Walpole St Peter, hosted the event, organised by teacher Emily Coward, with teams from Marshland St James, Terrington St John, Walpole Highway, West Walton, Tilney St Lawrence and Emneth (runners-up).
The school’s netball team enjoyed success in the Marshland High 5s Tournament. Louie Cottrill, Raven Power, Oliver Swann, Ella Wilson and Jensen Nunn won the event and teacher Dawn Liddle praised their sportsmanship and excellent teamwork.
Year 6 pupils at the school have recently returned from a two-night trip to the Hilltop Outdoor Centre near Sheringham. Calum Mitchell said: “The night games were awesome.” Sky Power said the zip wire and high ropes helped her gain confidence. Ben Curtis said: “I beat the instructor when we were mountain biking.”
Norfolk County Council’s new assistant head of children’s services, Gordon Boyd, chose to visit Anthony Curton School as part of his familiarisation with his role. Mr Boyd spoke to headteacher Anne Senior and governors’ chairman Michael Scott. He also toured the school, met members of the school council and visited the Walpole Wallabies after-school club.
