Work experience team just loved Sunny Hunny
ALDERMAN Jackson School pupils hoed and sowed by the sea as they helped preparations for this year's Hunstanton in Bloom competition.
Year 11 students Michael Tigue, Ben Tuttle, Scott Laver and Keenan Wagg went to the resort as part of a special work experience programme, aiming to gain practical skills outside the classroom.
They joined West Norfolk Council's streetscene team for a day, picking up horticultural basics ranging from weeding and raking to scattering wild flower seeds in the sensory garden.
The youngsters were also taken on a guided tour of flower beds in the Esplanade Gardens, which have been "adopted" by local residents. The day ended with a game of crazy golf and a chance to try out the clifftop "pitch and putt" course.
Teacher Diana Goodman thanked streetscene operations manager Chris Durham and operator Paul Halford, who organised the activities, and members of Hunstanton Gardening Group.
"It was an amazing day for the students, giving them first-hand experience of the world of work and an invaluable learning opportunity," she said.
The Gaywood school works in partnership with Norfolk Education Exchange to arrange practical work experience with local employers.
The Exchange's employer engagement advisor, Maggi Parnell, said: "The students enjoyed an appropriate and fulfilling programme and everyone had a successful and enjoyable day."
