Work to start on £10m Lynn school
WORK to build a new £10 million school at Lynn for children with special educational needs is due to get under way this week.
The West Norfolk Complex Needs School will replace the Ethel Tipple and Alderman Jackson special schools to give children in the west of the county an improved learning environment.
The 150-place school will include a therapy suite with a hydropool, a sports hall and a resource base for staff from other schools and agencies in this area.
It is being built on the Ethel Tipple School site in Winston Churchill Drive, Fairstead, and is due to open in 2009.
Builders were expected on site on Monday.
The school is beinig funded by Norfolk County Council. Rosalie Monbiot, NCC's cabinet member for children's services, said: "We are committed to enhancing educational opportunities for children with special educational needs.
"Alderman Jackson and Ethel Tipple are fantastic schools but do not have the most suitable accommodation for effective and inclusive learning for these children. The new school will have wonderful facilities and will really help to improve the educational provision for children with special educational needs in West Norfolk."
