Xmas thanks for WN blood donors

PATIENTS and staff at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital whose lives have been touched by the generosity of blood donors are sending a big Christmas thank you for keeping stocks healthy over the festive season.

Donors giving blood around the Lynn area will be greeted by a giant Christmas card full of messages of thanks from those who see the benefits of their generosity on a daily basis.

"December is always a tough month for us to ensure blood stocks remain healthy, but we have seen great support so far from local donors. It is vital that we have enough blood to tide us over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays, but it's equally important that donors give in the New Year to boost our stocks," said Gareth Bell, spokesman for the National Blood Service.

"Winter illnesses, such as colds and flu, mean a donation must be postponed and, with people busy visiting friends and family, or going away on holiday, blood donation may possibly fall by as much as ten per cent.

"Although this drop in donations only sounds small, it can have a big effect on blood stocks," he added.

Anyone interested in giving blood can ring the National Donor Helpline on 0845 7711 711 (24 hours) or visit www. blood.co.uk to register details and find locations for sessions.
