Youngsters can get free condoms
A CREDIT card-style scheme enabling teenagers and young people to obtain free condoms is being launched at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The C-Card, which is part of a country-wide initiative and supported by the NHS and Norfolk County Council, aims to give 13 to 24-year-olds easier access to contraception.
Currently, some of these people do not have regular access to contraceptive services or information about sexual health.
To receive the free condoms young people are required to register at the QEH's Genito Urinary Medicine (GUM) clinic reception, where they will be given a user number and C-Card.
Following this, under 16s are allowed three return visits and over 16s can make up to six visits to the QEH or other medical centres where they will be entitled to bags containing up to 12 condoms.
The packs also include information about sexually transmitted infections, the safe use of condoms, other forms of contraception and pregnancy.
GUM clinic manager, sister Nina Frusher, said: "Traditionally this age group has always been difficult to target. Registering for the scheme is very simple and takes around 20 minutes. During that time we are also able to discuss any issues or concerns they may have about sexual health in a very informal and non-judgemental way."
