Youngsters go green
SCHOOLCHILDREN have added their own touch of green to the new Palm Paper site at Saddlebow Industrial Estate.
West Lynn Primary School pupils received a variety of seeds as part of a national newspaper's Seeds for Schools campaign and grew them in papier mache plant pots made from old newspapers.
Parent governor Angela Gromoff then decided to approach Palm Paper to ask if the pupils could visit the factory and plant some of the young trees.
"I thought it would help them learn about the link between trees and paper and the importance of recycling and re-planting," she said.
Palm Paper, which started operation in August, produces newsprint from old newspapers. A landscaping phase is under way at the factory and part of the site near the entrance was allocated for the pupils' use.
The secretary/PA to the Managing Director Business and Administration, Jacqui Saunders, said: "A small area was prepared for the children to plant the seedlings. We also invited them to return to the site in 12 months to measure the seedlings' growth."
