Your Big Event - Monique Smith 60th Birthday

A South Wootton grandmother did not ask for presents at a party to mark her 60th birthday – but raised £405 for the Lynn News-backed Special Care Baby Appeal instead.

Mrs Monique Smith, of Nursery Lane, held the party at Dersingham Church Hall on Saturday, April 4.

Around 85 family and friends enjoyed a disco and buffet, including her daughters Mrs Hayley Pink, from Watlington, and Mrs Tracey Lattimore, from Cambridge, and her grandchildren eight-year-old Harry, six-year-old Lily and four-year-old Joseph.

Mrs Smith, married to Nick (62), is a carer support worker with the Crossroads organisation and decided she would like to help the appeal which is raising 150,000 to expand and improve the lifesaving unit for ill and premature babies at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

"People were putting money in my birthday cards," said Mrs Smith, who was grateful to her daughters for helping with the arrangements.
