Your Big Event - RAF Marham annual formal reception

Civic guests had a chance to look around RAF Marham when they were invited to the West Norfolk base for its annual formal reception.

Welcomed by station commander, group captain Colin Basnett ADC MA RAF, around 100 people attended what was essentially a cocktail evening on Wednesday, May 20.

Among the guests were new Mayor and Mayoress of West Norfolk Michael and Gillian Pitcher and council leader Nick Daubney.

They were among those treated to a tour of the "Depth" hangar where engineering work on Tornadoes is carried out.

The event, held in conjunction with BAE Systems, proved a great hit.

The evening rounded off with the traditional sunset ceremony where the RAF flag is lowered and there is a flypast.

A parade was lead by a band from RAF Cranwell.

The reception, which also included guests representing the Royal British Legion, RAFA Association, schools and landowners, was a thank you for support from the community over the last year, a spokesman said.

Group captain Basnett made a speech and took the salute. Food was provided by award-winning RAF chefs.
