A marriage certificate found hidden in a book at an auction has been returned to its rightful owners.
Gill McKinnon put out an appeal in Tuesday’s Lynn News to find the descendants of Arthur and Kate Wilmore after being passed the certificate.
It was found within an envelope, bearing the Buckingham Palace seal, addressed to an Elsie Chapman of 34 Sidney Street Lynn. The envelope had been placed in a book which was sold in Downham.
Now the certificate has been passed onto Suzannah Harwood, who is a great niece of the Mr and Mrs Wilmore.
Arthur and Kate, known as Kitty, were married in South Lynn on August 3, 1914.
But their happiness was short-lived as Arthur, a pilot, was killed shortly after their marriage.
During the Second World War, Kate worked with the Red Cross and vowed to look her friend Elsie Chapman, who was injured following an ambulance crash.
Kate died last year while Elsie passed on in 2008 at the age of 105.
Miss Harwood, who lives in Liverpool, said: “It will be fantastic to have the marriage certificate as we don’t have very many photographs or personal belongings from Kitty.”
