BAWSEY: One woman dead and elderly couple injured in crash

Accident blocks the B1145 at Bawsey on Wednesday afternoon.

Accident blocks the B1145 at Bawsey on Wednesday afternoon.

A woman has died following a head-on collision in Bawsey earlier this morning.

Four rapid response vehicles, two ambulances, a paramedic car and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were sent to the scene of the crash, which happened at the junction of the B1145 and East Winch Road at around 11.30am.

A woman in her 50s was driving a blue Kia Rio and a couple in their 70s were travelling in a silver Mitsubishi 4x4 truck.

The driver of the Kia died at the scene and the elderly couple suffered whiplash injuries.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident.

“The casualties were initially trapped and despite a huge effort from all emergency services involved, a woman in her 50s died at the scene.

“A couple in their 70s sustained minor injuries and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”

Police are investigating the cause of the collision and ask that anyone who witnessed the collision or the manner of driving prior to the collision contacts Sgt Peter Howlett at Swaffham Roads Policing on 101.
