CASTLE RISING: Royals brave wintry conditions

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Castle Rising Church for morning service on Sunday. The Queen walks with Lord Greville Howard followed by Prince Philip and the Rev Jonathan Riviere.

Dozens of well-wishers turned out despite the freezing conditions to greet the Queen as she attended church in Castle Rising on Sunday.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen was greeted by Lord Greville Howard before joining worshippers at the village’s St Lawrence Church.

The service was led by the Rev Jonathan Riviere.

A crowd of some 50 people braved the snow and ice outside the church to greet the royal party after the service.

Youngsters presented flowers and gifts to the Queen, who was wearing a matching turquoise suit and hat, including two Australian students on a gap year in West Norfolk.

A waiting car then took the royal couple back to Sandringham without any mishaps of the kind that afflicted the royal car last week.
