It was the only place to be this weekend for those with good taste as Holkham Hall staged the fifth North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival.

The event was opened by Vicountess Coke in the courtyard of the hall and 11,000 people came through the gate – up 1,000 on last year.

There were 65 stalls for people to enjoy and among the concessions doing very well was the rare-breed Fruitpig Company, from West Norfolk, which sold out of its highly tasty BLT sandwiches.

Another business with strong West Norfolk connections to have a memorable day was Essence Foods, which has been based in Swaffham but has now relocated to Salle.

Proprietor Sarah Savage was the winner of the Kettle Crisps £1,000 business mentoring prize and after a highly-impressive demonstration of her craft she also soon sold out of her raspberry and rose jam.

Other demonstrators included Eric Snaith, of Titchwell Manor, and Ben Hanley from the Stanhoe Duck.
