The Lynnsport Ladybirds running group is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the introduction of a new course for beginners which starts next Wednesday.
Fabia Pollard, of the Lynnsport Ladybirds, said: “The group has inspired hundreds of women to run over the last 20 years and many of the original ladies are still going strong.
“Women who would like to start running to feel healthier or maybe shed a few pounds this year are invited to join our beginners’ running course.”
The all-female running group originally started in 1993 as the Reebok Running Sisters group.
After 20 years, it boasts over 100 members with around 30 attending weekly runs.
Members take part in a number of local and national events such as the Grand East Anglian Run, Race for Life, Peterborough Half-Marathon, Bungay Half-Marathon, Great North Run and the London Marathon.
Fabia said: “We are a friendly group who welcome women who haven’t run before or who may be returning to running after a break.
“The course encourages motivation and confidence and is based on fun, fitness and friendship.”
Hour-long sessions will be held at Lynnsport on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm, and cost £12 for six weeks.
Fabia said: “Participants are shown how to run safely with warm up and cool down stretches.
“Beginners have been surprised and delighted by their weekly progress.”
One of the previous beginners said: “I didn’t think that I could run, but on this course I learned that running can be fun.
“I’ve made some new friends who I now run with every week.”
