Over the last seven weeks, we have been reporting on the progress of two women who won a competition to win three months free boot camp training with personal trainer Jack Bishop.
The women, Kim Singer and Jacqui Nelligan, both whose aims were to lose weight and tone up, are dropping the pounds at an incredible pace as they attend the Bawsey Fitness Boot Camp.
That is due to hard work they have been putting in – and the instruction they are receiving from Jack.
So what is the secret? We asked Jack to let us know some of the techniques deployed at his boot camp – other than blood, sweat and tears, of course.
He said: “The aim of my sessions are to get the heart rate high, muscles working and metabolism through the roof so even after you leave the session you’re still melting body fat at an incredible rate for hours and hours.
“My sessions are essentially all about achieving a massive oxygen debt and trying to build up lactic acid in the muscles. Then when the body tries to restore itself back to normal it increases metabolism massively.”
In order to get heart rates soaring, Jack puts together a challenging programme that pushes his clients to their limits.
Jack added: “With a variety of equipment used, every session is different, interesting and a shock to the body, this way no one stands still with results and they always progress.
“My clients get the benefits of personal training, while receiving the support from a like-minded group of people. ”
The type of equipment includes slam balls, kettle bells, heavy ropes, metal sleds, harnesses and sledgehammers.
Jack said: “Pushing a sled through sand as fast as possible really works a variety of muscles, and having the group to support you and encourage you really helps.”
He also uses the diverse landscape that Bawsey offers. This includes making clients run up and down steep hills until their legs turn to jelly.
Competition winner Jacqui Nelligan said: “I love boot camp. It works so well and the results are unbelievable.
“It’s hard but enjoyable as well.
“I like the sled-push because I feel proud each time I do them. They are hard and get harder depending on weather conditions but I do really like them.
“I get to a point where I feel like my legs will give way but with the encouragement of Jack and the group I push through which gives a massive sense of achievement.
“I can’t even describe how hard it is to run at a 45 degree angle in sand a foot deep. The hills are my nemesis but I guarantee that I will get the better of them and not the other way around.”
With the support of a group of people all working hard, clients push themselves through the pain barrier and very quickly start seeing the results they want.
Jack said: “Some people are daunted by one-to-one personal training, but in a group it’s more relaxed and enjoyable.
“We have a variety of different fitness levels here and I watch my clients push themselves to the limit because they want to get as fit as the more experienced members.”
Kim Singer, our other competition winner said she was wowed by the whole experience. She said: “Jacqui and I are proof that it works.
“It’s easy to see why people come back week in-week out.”
