Around 300 people headed to a family fun day at CITB’s The Birches Hotel on Saturday to help raise money for Scotty’s Little Soldiers by joining in an afternoon of fun activities.
The team at the hotel had plenty to keep the crowds entertained, even dowsing themselves in ice cold water as they took on the ice bucket challenge that has been sweeping the nation.
Paul Smith, duty manager at the hotel, said: “We had all the traditional stalls, all manned by volunteers or army cadets, plus a barbecue, a photo studio and model aeroplanes in the heritage centre.”
There was also a bouncy castle, paintball, Beat The Goalie and much more.
Paul added: “We had a JCB challenge where you had to try and move a golf ball using a mini-digger. It was a really good day and we were pleased with the turnout.”
The fundraisers are still collecting the funds and counting up a total.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers had a stall at the family fun day, with information about the charity and how others could get involved.
Nikki Scott, charity founder, said: “The whole day went really well and had a great turnout. It was really great to have the support of the team at The Birches and you could tell that they have worked really hard on making this event a success.”
The charity will be holding their first Scotty’s Superhero Fun Run this Sunday in Lynn’s town centre. Starting at 4pm, the run is open to children under 18 and calls for them to don their best superhero costumes to raise money for a good cause. Registration costs £5 and must be done in advance at the website www.scottyslittlesoldiers.co.uk
