Crowds have flocked to a village’s parish church this week for its popular annual flower festival.
Among them was the Bishop of Ely, the Rt Rev Stephen Conway, pictured above right, who visited St Peter’s Church in Walpole St Peter on Monday to see the displays for himself.
And, as a thank you to the dozens of villagers who helped to stage the event, the church’s rector, the Rev Neil Batcock put his apron on last night to cook for them at a barbecue.
He said: “The great thing about the festival is it involves the whole community, not just the church.”
Large crowds flocked to see the displays during the five-day festival, which closed on Wednesday. The event is thought to have raised around £10,000 for church funds, though no final total has yet been announced. mfcp14af06007
