A nine-year-old boy is fighting for his life tonight, Sunday, April 13, after falling from a bus as it travelled along the A47 in West Norfolk.

The incident happened near Tilney All Saints at around 3.45pm this afternoon. The road remains closed.

Police say the boy fell from a door towards the back of the 71-seater, double decker coach, which was transporting 20 children and 10 adults from the Stamford Rugby Club back home after a tournament in Holt.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Lynn with serious injuries. His condition was said to be “critical” a short time ago.

The boy’s parents were on board and are being supported by specially trained officers. The other paassengers were taken to a rest centre set up at the Lynn police station, where alternative travelling arrangements were made for them.

Supt Dave Marshall, of Norfolk Police, said: “This is a serious incident which has left a nine-year-old boy fighting for his life.

“The circumstances of how the boy came to fall from the coach will form part of our investigation and it would be inappropriate to speculate further at this stage.”

The road was re-opened at around 9.45pm this evening.
