A girl has been taken to hospital after she and another girl were rescued by lifeboat crews off the north Norfolk coast this afternoon.
The Hunstanton hovercraft was called to the Brancaster area shortly before 3pm today, Monday, after several people alerted the coastguard to two people who were attempting to swim off the wreck sands as the tide was coming in.
By the time the crew arrived, the girls, who are believed to be aged between 10 and 12 and from the Stamford area of Lincolnshire, had managed to reach an island just off the coast.
However, a lifeboat spokesman said one of them did have a badly sprained and swollen ankle.
The pair were brought back to shore, from where the injured girl was taken to Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
