An unusual amnesty is being held at the Sue Ryder store on Lynn’s St Nicholas’ retail park where customers are being asked to donate their old bras.
The charity is asking ladies to donate their unwanted underwear during February to help raise £6m to transform its hospice at Thorpe Hall, near Peterborough.
Store manager Jacky Parker said: “We want your old bras. So please go to the backs of your drawers and drag them out. Never mind if they are grey and worn, just head down to the Sue Ryder store and drop them off – there will be no questions asked!”
The store are asking for bras as they are the item which can make the most money when they are sold to recycling companies and sent to developing countries. Miss Parker said that in some parts of Africa bras are still a status symbol.
Area manager Jo Panks, said: “New Year is a great time to sort out your cupboards and drawers and monies raised from the Bra Amnesty will help our rebuild of the Thorpe Hall Hospice. Sue Ryder continues to provide incredible care for those with incurable illnesses and with your bras they can really make a difference.”
Bras can also be donated at Lynn’s other Sue Ryder shops in Broad Street and High Street. Pictured above are sales assistants, Stephen Kane and Julie Adkin
