Hundreds of butterflies were sent soaring into the sky by Lynn school children.

Youngsters at Howard Junior School have spent weeks caring for 60 Painted Lady Butterflies before they were released on Monday.

The children cared for the caterpillars, which were given names such as Trevor, before they transformed into chrysalis and finally into butterflies.

Headteacher Gregory Hill said youngsters came up with the idea after identifying a lack of butterflies in the Lynn area.

He said the children had gained a lot out of the project, which has been supported by the RSPB and RHS.

Mr Hill said: “They have learned about life cycles, ecology and it has helped with their literacy work and caring for animals.

“All of the butterflies successfully hatched.”
