A company which ran a West Norfolk nursery has gone on trial this week accused of corporate manslaughter in connection with the death of a worker at the site almost four years ago.

PS and JE Ward Ltd, the operator of the Belmont Nursery in Terrington St Clement, also faces a second count of breaching its general duty to an employee over the death of Grzegorz Pieton in 2010.

The firm has previously pleaded not guilty to both charges, which were brought following a joint investigation by police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Mr Pieton, who was 26, died when a metal hydraulic lift trailer that he had been towing came into contact with overhead power cables in the Long Road area of Terrington St Clement on July 15, 2010. He was pronounced dead the same day.

A jury was sworn in at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday. The trial, which resumed yesterday, is expected to continue for around two and a half weeks.
