Conmen have stolen more than £1,000 from a pensioner in South Wootton.
Three men arrived at the man’s home in Burghley Road on Wednesday last week without an appointment and began to carry out work they claimed he needed doing on his roof.
Once work had started, he was told that it would cost £1,250, which he withdrew from the bank. He gave to the men who then left in a white van.
He later discovered that a second large sum of money was missing from his property.
Det Con Steve Moseley, from Operation RADAR, the police team dedicated to tackling doorstep crime, said: “These men have not only taken advantage of the elderly man by charging a grossly inflated amount, they have also exploited his vulnerability by stealing from him.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen these men in the area last Wednesday afternoon. We believe their company is bogus and would urge anyone who is cold called by these traders to turn them away and call police immediately.”
Anyone with information should contact Det Con Moseley on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
