Bike riders and film fans are being encouraged to pedal for their pictures at an outdoor cycling event being launched in Swaffham next month.
The Cycle Cinema initiative is being staged by Breckland Council and Creative Arts East in four locations across the district, starting with a screening of Grease at the Swaffham Community Centre.
Three bikes, provided by Electric Pedals, will be set up at each venue and the energy generated by filmgoers who volunteer to cycle will power the cinema screen, projector and speakers which are used to show each film.
And, as well as enjoying the film, organisers hope the event will encourage people to think more about how they use energy in their everyday lives.
Lynda Turner, the council’s cabinet member for Localism, Communities and Environmental Services , said: “All the electricity for the performance is produced by the cyclists – there are no batteries.
“Having generated their own energy, we hope people will be encouraged to think a little about their own energy consumption and hopefully make a small step change to reducing it.”
The Swaffham event is on Thursday September 12 at 7.30pm, with admission from 6.30pm.
Tickets are £4 for adults, £3 for children. For more information, contact the Iceni Partnership on 01760 722800.
